Papaya Street Pier Construction Project – Clearwater Beach, FL
The Papaya Street Pier Construction Project is part of the City of Clearwater’s Papaya Street Plaza and recreation facilities. Bridge Builders was contracted to build the 90′ pier jutting into the Mandalay Channel. The pier features a 26′ bulb-shaped deck encompassed by stainless steel cable railings and built on pressure treated pilings of Southern Yellow Pine. The project was tied to the City’s existing bulkhead and routed to accommodate electrical conduit for the pier lighting.
To aid in general maintenance and longevity, Trex® decking was used. The decking is an eco-friendly composite made from an innovative blend of 95% recycled wood and plastic film. In addition, 25′ of through-flow decking grate was used to allow light to intrude below surface. AZEK Rail is a capped composite which was used for handrails and posts in accordance with the City’s specifications. The rail uses PVC performance materials, engineered for superior safety and strength, and will not rot, peel, or splinter.
